2025 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class: Here Comes the Newest Addition to the Benz Family: The third-generation model features a new design, modern tech and an all-electric or hybrid powertrain. But is it the ultimate luxury concept car, or does it involve too many compromises? Let’s dive into the details.
What’s New for the 2025 CLA-Class?

The Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class has always been a darling, with a nice balance of style and affordable luxury. However, for 2025, Mercedes has gone a step further by providing an all electric option in addition to the hybrid. The new Mercedes-Benz CLA-class with Electric Intelligence (EQ) technology, built on a dedicated EV platform, features 800-volt architecture, impressive range claims, and a high-tech interior. But it comes with its fair share of drawbacks, too. The CLA-Class raises questions about its ability to compete in the war for future EV sales from weight issues to cramped rear-seat accommodations.
Key Highlights:
Offered hybrid and a pure EV
800-volt electric architecture for rapid charging
Fantastic range and efficiency claims
Exterior: Sleeker yet Taller

The CLA-Class has a long history of head-turning design, and the 2025 model is no different. The front end receives a full-width illuminated light bar similar to that seen on the EQXX concept, providing a modern, futurist appearance. This does place the lights somewhat high, though, which if I’m not mistaken makes it look taller than it is.
Big muscular creases on the side above the wheels are meant to give the new Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class a sporty profile. These bits of detail may add visual intrigue, but they can’t hide the fact that the EV version sits higher because it has its batteries there, and so Ford had to disguise that difference. Out back, the CLA flaunts its connected taillights and understated ducktail spoiler, keeping the fastback shape beloved by fans.
Design Pros:
Aesthetics with a modern, elegant EQXX elements
Fastback rooflines and mascular creases
Design Cons:
Higher roof because of battery location
Not as tasteful as its predecessor.
Cabin and Comfort: Tech-Thin but Cramped

Step into the new Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class, and you’re met with a MBUX Superscreen-dominated cockpit that oozes modernity. A total of three screens rule the dashboard for a superspy driving experience. The rear seats, however, tell a different story. However, the battery in the EV variant lifts the floor up, limiting legroom and making the footwells uncomfortably shallow. This in stark contrast to the Tesla Model 3 and (by extension) its competitors, which can provide much more rear seat room.
The hybrid CLA does better in this respect, with a rear seat arrangement that’s not quite as cramped. Mercedes does make an attempt to compensate with a standard panoramic glass roof, which lends an airiness to the cabin. But when it comes to the quality of the materials, the CLA is left wanting. The interior is dominated by hard plastics, save for a few padded surfaces on the door cards. In comparison to the soft-touch materials you would find in a newer Tesla Model 3, the CLA holds less high-end feeling.
Interior Pros:
Very modern, screen-centric dashboard.
Panoramic glass roof which adds openness.
Interior Cons:
Tight backseat space in the EV version.
The cabin is full of hard plastics.
Performance & Efficiency: Strong Range, Hefty Weight

A standout feature of the CLA is its 800-volt electric architecture, which allows for fast charging and impressive efficiency. The new Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class 250+ with EQ technology has a WLTP range of up to 792 km (492 miles), one of the longest ranges in its class for a compact EV. It’s also quick to charge: the CLA 250+ can recover a range of up to 325 km (202 miles) in just 10 minutes, making it almost as easy to refuel as a gas car. The single-motor version of the new Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class delivers impressive performance, accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in a claimed 6.6 seconds, combining efficiency with thrilling electric power
At the top of the model range is the CLA 350 4MATIC for those keen for extra power. No full specs are available yet, but this variant should offer a more dynamic driving experience thanks to its all-wheel-drive system and upgraded powertrain.
But the weight of the CLA is one big black mark. The basic single-motor EV weighs more than 4,400 pounds—not to mention heavier than a Mercedes S-Class! This extra weight compromises performance, braking, and tire wear, and raises questions about Mercedes’ engineering decisions. Rivals such as the Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Ioniq 6 are much lighter, meaning better handling and efficiency.
Performance Pros:
CLA 250+: Excellent range (up to 792 km) and rapid charging
CLA 350 4MATIC Features the fast edition with all wheel drive
800-volt architecture for fast charging.
Performance Cons:
Oversized (over 2T) hits handling efficiency
Not as nimble as lighter competitors
Technical & Features: State of the Art, Not Flawless

The feature set in the CLA is extensive, with a 10.25″ display for the infotainment system, a 14.0-inch center touchscreen wireless Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay, and tons of standard safety equipment like blind-spot warning, and a driver attention alert system. Optional upgrades, such as the Driver Assistance Package and adaptive suspension, further enhance the car’s appeal.
But the sparse real estate of the rear screen (the Tesla Model 3 comes with one as standard) and the widespread use of hard plastics in the interior are disappointing touches for a luxury brand like Mercedes. The tech is impressive, but it doesn’t warrant the CLA’s premium price tag.
Tech Pros:
High-tech infotainment and safety features.
Diff-obsessed options such as adaptive suspension.
Tech Cons:
No rear passenger display
Interior materials not as nice as some rivals
CLA Comparison with Competitors

Competition will be stiff for the new Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class, with the similarly priced Tesla Model 3, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 and growing Chinese EVs. As good as the CLA is in styling and range, its interior quality, rear room and weight control as all-world talents. The Tesla Model 3, for one, delivers more cabin space, better materials, and a lighter construction, making it a hard act to follow.
Key Competitors:
Tesla Model 3: Better interior quality and rear space
Hyundai Ioniq 6: Lighter, more efficient
Chinese EVs: Lower price, good specs
Pros and Cons: Should You Choose to Get the CLA?
Pros:
Sleek, futuristic design.
Long electric range (up to 792 km WLTP)
800-volt architecture for fast charging.
Hybrid alternative for buyers not willing to make the jump to electric.
Cons:
Heavy (4,400+ lbs).
Tight rear seating in the EV model.
Hard plastic-heavy interior.
Can be more expensive than competitors
Conclusion: Good Car, Not Quite Great
A little bit of everything It hits a lot of positives, from its stunning design to great range and tech features. However, its weight, cramped interior and questionable quality of materials prevent it from being a true leader of the segment. If you have the new Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class on your list, be sure to take it for a spin and see if it meets the challenge from the Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Ioniq 6, among others.
